Know when a chase is on the air.

ChaseScanner watches the Los Angeles news stations' live streams around the clock. When one of them goes live on a police pursuit, your phone gets one notification and the stream plays right in the app.

how it works

the stations do the flying. we do the watching.

Los Angeles TV covers pursuits like nowhere else, and each station starts a dedicated live stream when one is on. ChaseScanner notices, and tells you.

FOX 11ABC7KTLA 5NBC4CBS2 / KCAL9
01 / DETECT

every two minutes, every station

A detector checks each station's channel for a live stream titled as a pursuit. Recaps and newscasts don't count. Most of the time it finds nothing, and the app reads NO CHASE.

SCAN in its quiet state: CHASE STATUS NO CHASE, the player reading NO SIGNAL, and the helicopter map with a free preview countdown
02 / ALERT

one ping, then the stream

When a stream goes live, you get a notification, usually within about two minutes of it starting. Tap it and the station's stream is already playing. One chase means one alert, even when three stations are on it.

03 / CONFIGURE

turn alerts on once

That's the whole setup. No account, no sign-in, nothing to tune. CONFIG shows whether alerts are active and holds the Pro controls.

the helicopter map: five aircraft over central Los Angeles, lines drawn between them, and a CONVERGENCE PROBABLE reading with the distance between them

helicopter tracking

see the helicopters before the stream.

Police and news helicopters broadcast their positions. ChaseScanner puts the ones over the basin on a live map, names the ones it knows, and watches for them gathering on one spot.

the rules

watch from the couch.

ChaseScanner is a news app. It's built to be light on your phone and clear about what it is.

safety

never go to the scene.

Pursuits are dangerous and unpredictable. Never drive toward one, never use the app while driving, and always follow the instructions of law enforcement.

privacy

no account, no location.

The app never asks where you are and has nothing to sign in to. The only thing stored is your notification token, and only if you turn alerts on. No ads, no analytics, no tracking.

the streams

they belong to the stations.

Streams play through YouTube's own player. ChaseScanner points you at them and never records, downloads or rebroadcasts anything.
