ChaseScanner, by Shrub Software LLC. Last updated 26 September 2026.

ChaseScanner tells you when a police pursuit is live on Los Angeles news and shows you the stream. It knows very little about you. Here is exactly what it does and does not collect.

no account

There is no sign-up and no sign-in. We do not know your name, email address, or Apple ID.

notifications

If you turn on pursuit alerts, your phone sends its push notification token to our server, which stores it with Amazon Web Services (Amazon SNS) so we can send you an alert. The token identifies your device to Apple's notification service; it does not identify you. It is stored with nothing else. Turning alerts off in the app disables the token and no further alerts are sent. Tokens that Apple reports as no longer valid are removed.

your location

ChaseScanner does not ask for or read your location. Nothing about where you are leaves your phone.

what the app fetches

The app reads a few small data files from our servers: the list of live streams, the pursuit log, and, in future, aircraft positions. Those files are the same for everyone. When your phone fetches them, our content delivery network (Amazon CloudFront, in the United States) sees your IP address, as any server does. We do not turn on access logging and we do not store it.

video and YouTube

Streams play in an embedded YouTube player. When a stream plays, YouTube and Google receive the same information they would if you watched on youtube.com, under the Google Privacy Policy. ChaseScanner uses YouTube API Services to find live streams; by using the app you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. We do not receive anything about what you watch.

aircraft data

The helicopter map shows the positions of aircraft, not of people. Aircraft data comes from adsb.lol under the Open Database License. Nothing about you is sent to them.

purchases

ChaseScanner Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details, and we do not send your purchase to our servers. Your device checks its own App Store entitlements to know Pro is active.

what we don't do

children

ChaseScanner shows live news coverage of police pursuits and is not intended for children under 13.

deleting your data

The only thing we hold is a push token, and only if you turned alerts on. Turn alerts off in the app to disable it, or email us and we will delete it.

changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the app.
